In 2009 local bookseller Faith Hochalter (aka The Book Babe) was diagnosed with breast cancer. Local author Jon Lewis sent out an e-mail to a small group of Faith friends, among them several other local authors, proposing we find a way to help Faith. From that e-mail discussion Project Book Babe was born.
We reached out to the publishing community and got an overwhleming response of support, assistance, and donations. An event and auction we’re planned. Over 50 authors contributed to the auction and 11 authors agreed to participate in the event. The event took place on April 4th, 2009 at Marcos de Niza High School to a crowd of about 700 people and was a huge success. The auctions and event combined raised approximately $100,000 to help support Faith while she underwent cancer treatment. She is currently in remission.
