So I saw the plastic surgeon today. Total Llama…He seems like a wonderful guy, he listened very attentively to my questions and had an answer to all of them. He explained things so well that I actually understood everything that will be happening to me. It turns out that there will be a minimum of three surgeries (not including the one next week) before this is all done. Also, the reconstruction will be 1 to 6 months after the radiation. So, probably will not have a new set of girls by my birthday this year. Very sad.
Even though it has been a few weeks since a treatment, I am starting to feel horrible again, like I do right after a treatment. Super sucky. The nausea has returned as has the weakness and the exhaustion. Super fun! Looks like I am back to limiting my diet to salads from Trader Joes. Luckily the mozzarella and tomato salad always makes for a happy tummy.
Happy Note: One of my favorite shows ever is Scrubs, I can’t help it, I am a sucker for Dr. Cox’s rants. Anyway, I finally bought the season with the musical episode and have decided that most shows would be made better if they incorporated at least one musical episode. If you have not seen the Scrubs musical, you need to. One of the songs is about bromances and it is hilarious! All the songs are funny but that one is my favorite.
There is this berry called miracle fruit that when eaten, makes all sour food taste sweet. Seriously. I first heard about it on United States of Tara, a great tv show, and was curious so I got some and had a miracle fruit party today. We ate lemons, grapefruit, and limes all of which tasted like they had been dipped in sugar, weird. I am totally going to see if the berries do any good when my taste buds have been demolished by the next round of chemo.
Speaking of chemo, it turns out that I only get a week to recover from surgery before chemo. I am not very happy about that. I’d rather have more time between the two. Chemo kicks my but enough without the added pain of being cut open and stitched back together. I realize that the sooner I get the chemo the sooner it is over, I would still rather recover completely from the surgery.
On a much less depressing note, I got an email from Adam Kump one of the musicians from PBB. He is sending me a personalized cd. Yay! I like presents….
One of the most fun (read as annoying) side effects of the chemo is the hot flashes. Apparently the chemo sent me into early menopause or pre-menopause or something like that. Either way, I get hot flashes at least 3 time an hour, although it feels like 10 an hour. It is very grrr worthy especially when out it public. I figured that a handheld fan would be a handy thing to carry around with me. Except that apparently it is nearly impossible to find one. My lovely friend Michelle and I spent a couple of hours looking for one to no avail. I was starting to get cranky when Michelle’s mother-in-law suggested Cost Plus. Of course! I felt v. foolish that I did not think of them first. They had two different styles of hand-held fans and are now my new favorite place to shop.
Chemo side effects are big and dumb….
So this is me, the Book Babe, or as some have called me, the book pimp. This is where I talk about books, authors, cancer (and all the super fun side-effects that come with it) and pretty much anything else I want.
Before I start talking about fun things like books, I want to thank all the wonderful people who worked on Project Book Babe, attended PBB and donated to PBB. All the support is still a little overwhelming.
Also, a huge thanks to all the authors who showed up (even Frank who had to stay home with his sick kids, he is such a good Dad). I love you all and always will. I will forever be your Book Babe.
Some super fun books I have read lately:
Fat Cat by the Super Amazing Robin Brande (everyone needs to read everything she has ever done or ever will do)
Fantastic writing, great characters (one of them strangely reminiscent of my friend Shannon) and a premise that had me wishing my will power was stronger. I read it in ARC (advanced reading copies) form but it comes out in hardcover in the fall.
Wolverine: Worst Day Ever by Barry Lyga (also Super Amazing)
A quick fun read, perfect for boys, and I totally loved it. I read it twice I liked it so much. Also, who doesn’t love a book about Wolverine?
